FROM THUMBNAILS TO COLOUR ROUGHS

MAN AND SHOES

MICE AND BATH

FRONT COVER

If you compare the journey from thumbnail to colour rough there are not many steps or changes for the  sad man and shoes piece compared to the mice in the bath tub. On the one hand I think development can be really beneficial and help take the illustration into different and more interesting places, but in this case I think I was happy enough to not mess around with the image too much and keep it relatively simple. I think also because there was so much development work done with the mice and bath illustration, I am happy that my two pieces vary in both design but also the 'behind the scenes' work. If you look at the first thumbnail for the mice rough I think I experimented a lot in between, and in the end produced ideas that were encouraged by George in my tutorials with successful results. If I could have more time I would like to use gouache to explore the shoes/small man idea as I did with the mice/bath tub, but that is something I could take further and explore before I produce the final image for Olio.
